Figuring Out Your Why

Why Oh Why?!?!

Figuring Out Your Why.  What does that even mean?  Your why is your grounding purpose that drives what you do.  If you are wanting to make a change in your life in any capacity, taking the time to dig deep and identify the real reason behind that change can make a difference between achieving your goals and falling back to old habits.  I’ll let you in on a little secret…it may get a little uncomfortable figuring out your why.  The more honest you are with yourself with your why, the better.  Another bonus to having a meaningful, honest why is that you become more engaged with and enjoy the journey to the goal more than the goal itself.

Tips for figuring out your why:

1.       Take time.  I believe we are conditioned in our society to look outside of ourselves for answers and for what defines happiness.  Take the time to pose the questions to yourself on why you really want to make the change or achieve the goal.  You already have the answer in you – you just need to get quiet enough to listen.

2.       Write it out.  My personal experience and working with others is that putting your thoughts on paper actually makes them more real.  Write out the first 5 whys that come to mind and then see what creates a spark and that you connect with the most deeply.

3.       Be unapologetically honest with yourself.  Remember this is your why.  No one else.

In summary, your why…

·         Connects you to a deeper level vs. surface level that can be fleeting

·         Creates motivation

·         Makes your actions and your choices more about the journey, less about the goal

Now get to living your blissfully whole life!
