The Holidays are Upon Us

There is something cozy and warm about this time of year and that’s coming from someone that lives in Minnesota!  It is also holiday time.  Holiday time can be hectic, stressful, and beautiful all wrapped up together.  It can feel like once Thanksgiving is over, people are looking to the future whether it’s Christmas or even New Year’s, but what about today?

This is your loving reminder to not forget about today.  Today is your whole world…not what happened yesterday, not tomorrow, not next month, not next year.  It is too easy to step out of today and plan for what is coming up in the future but all that does is takes away from today.

Today is beautiful.  Today is like no other day you’ll ever have because today will never happen again.  So, in the craziness of the holiday season, I encourage you to intentionally live today.  Here are some ideas for living in the moment:

1.       Get outside and breath in the fresh air.

2.       Eat your meals away from any screens and truly taste and enjoy the beautiful food.

3.       Talk to a friend.  Really, is there anything better to bring you into the moment than a great conversation with a friend?

4.       Accept your day.  If your day is not what you planned or what you had hoped for, wishing for something different takes you out of living in the present.  Accepting what is at this moment is your gift to yourself of staying present.

5.       Create mini celebrations today.  My family and I would read a joke each night at dinner between Thanksgiving and Christmas and it was so fun getting us out of our normal routine. We weren’t thinking about anything else but that moment. It was beautiful!

There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do, and mostly, live.” ~Dalai Lama
